Another Tease

I am really enjoying editing Femmes Fatales, book 2 of the Twins of Bellesfées series. Here's one of my favorite of Jacqueline's bad-ass scenes:

Let me know if you like it!

The sixth Austrian.

He was near the doors. He probably faced the gathered group with his back to the doors, but she couldn’t know. He might be standing off to the side nearer her. She wanted to hazard a glance through the glass. If she stood far enough back, she might not be seen in the dark. If only she had a sense of who was where, and what was happening.

“You come in here with a musketoon and think we won’t be frightened of you? We’re all seated. Our men are on the floor. We’ve done everything you asked!”

Jacqueline sighed with relief. Angélique must have caught her scent. Bless you, mon Ange!

Plenty of distraction for Jacqueline to poke her head around to locate the assassin, about two meters to the right and four meters forward. And clever Angélique, revealing he brandished a musketoon. A single shot, no reloading before she could strike him down, presuming he missed her. The men lay face down with their hands behind their heads.

“Don’t you dare point that gun at me!”

That was Jacqueline’s cue. She ploughed through the door and dropped to the floor, rolling over the sword. The man pivoted from Angélique and fired. The ball shattered the glass panel of the door. Jacqueline flexed to her knees and thrust Llewellyn’s blade up into the man’s groin. She withdrew, and she gave a quick nod to Llewellyn as he lifted his head.

The brigand dropped the gun. He gasped and fell to his knees. His wide eyes glazed over and he looked down. Blood soaked his trews and pooled on the marble.

Jacqueline got to her feet and pricked the man’s jugular vein, but the wound to his femoral artery was fatal. He would live just long enough to see the fury in her eyes before his closed.
